CALHOUN, Ga., Nov. 21 (UPI) -- An Applebee's restaurant in Georgia was temporarily closed after a deer crashed through a window and ran amok in the eatery's kitchen.

Joshua Bumgardner, a fry cook at the Applebee's on Highway 53 in Calhoun, said he and a coworker where doing prep work Saturday morning when they heard a loud crash that sounded like glass breaking.

The coworker went to investigate and discovered a male deer had broken through a window and was running toward the kitchen.

Bumgardner told WAGA-TV he and his coworker hid behind some garbage cans while the deer "slipped and slid" on the floor because "it wasn't wearing its slip resistant hooves."

The fry cook said he called 911, but the deer escaped through a back door before police arrived.

Photos of the incident were posted to Facebook by Bumgardner's wife.

A manager said there were no customers in the restaurant at the time of the incident, which left the deer without one of its antlers.

"We have been told that it's rutting season and that the deer had possibly seen his reflection in our window and thought it was another buck and charged at it," Bumgardner said.
