SEATTLE, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- A group of Washington state drone makers showed off their latest model's power by using it to pull a man on a skim board in a "drone surfing" video.

The creators of Freefly Systems drones posted a video to YouTube showing what happened when they used a Freefly ALTA 8 octocopter to pull a man on a skim board across the surface of the water.

The company said the process invented a new kite surfing-inspired sport: "drone surfing."

Hugh Bell of Freefly Systems said the team practiced on dry land with a skateboard before their first "drone surfing" attempt.
