Police continued the pursuit as Acevedo drove his Jeep Cherokee through a fence into the David L. Baker Memorial Golf Course and ultimately wound up in the water.
"He hit a bunker and tore up the 15th green and wound up in the lake," said Jim Sanders, who was golfing with his friend Jim Craft at the time.
Sanders and Craft, both former California police officers, told CBS Los Angeles, they dropped their clubs and held down the suspect until police arrived on the scene.
Sgt. Tony Luce of the Fountain Valley Police Department said Acevedo was in possession of a "significant amount" of narcotics as well as a a replica firearm and burglary tools.
