Speedy alligator shocks onlookers by sprinting across Florida road

LUTZ, Fla., Aug. 30 (UPI) -- A passenger in a car in Florida captured footage of an unusually speedy alligator sprinting across a road toward a nearby pond.

Shauna Wells Rhodes captured video of the alligator swiftly scuttling across the road in Lutz, north of Tampa, and through the grass while heading toward a pond.

Rhodes said the big gator was spotted near Sunlake Boulevard in the Stonebrier area.

The alligator had considerably more pep in its step than a gator spotted crossing a road last week in Louisiana. Sara Poynot called authorities about 4 a.m. Aug. 23 when the reptilian "jaywalker" began to cross the street in front of her and then came to a halt, blocking the road.
