QINHUANGDAO, China, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- China's first traffic-proof elevated bus was taken for a test drive over a highway in the port city of Qinhuangdao.

The 72-foot-long Transit Elevated Bus, which has a capacity of 300 passengers, cruised over two lanes of cars Tuesday on a highway in Qinhuangdao to test out the electric vehicle's brakes, drag and power consumption.

The public transportation vehicle is designed to help ease traffic congestion by having its elevated passenger compartment pass over cars on the road.

Tebtech, a company that helped develop the elevated bus, said there has been interest in building similar vehicles in Brazil, France, India and Indonesia.
