NEW ORLEANS, May 31 (UPI) -- A National Weather Service station in New Orleans shared images of a non-weather-related phenomenon that showed up on radar -- a cloud of termites.

The NWS New Orleans shared an animation on Twitter showing the cloud-shaped image on the weather radar that meteorologists determined was not caused by any weather patterns.

"We're used to seeing bird flocks on radar at sunrise, but it looks like insect swarms are getting picked up tonight," the May 29 tweet read.

Termite swarming season is currently in full swing in Louisiana and is expected to run through June.
