ADDU CITY, Maldives, April 27 (UPI) -- A scuba diver in the Maldives was filmed cutting through an abandoned fishing net filled with debris to free a trapped olive ridley sea turtle.

The video, filmed off the coast of Gan, shows the diver using a knife to cut through the abandoned -- or "ghost" net -- to free the trapped turtle.

The amphibian is eventually freed and is able to swim off into the ocean without further assistance.

"The turtle was found on the surface of the net with its flipper entangled in ghost gear," the uploader wrote. "We quickly got to work and removed the net from the turtle. When the turtle was free from the main net we noticed it still had fragment attached on the flipper but we managed to remove these, too."
