ST. MARTINVILLE , La., April 12 (UPI) -- A man in Louisiana had a close encounter with a large alligator while kayaking with his daughter at a local state park.

Lance Burgos shared video of his encounter as he pulled a float containing bait out of the water at Fausse Point State Park only to find a gator on the other end.

He told the Times-Picayune that he and his friend had noticed the floating pool noodle throughout the day and were just curious enough to pull it up.

"We saw some gators throughout the weekend, but nothing like what was on the end of that line," Burgos said.

Burgos can be seen quickly paddling his boat away from the gator as his daughter begins to cry and he warns his friend in a nearby boat of the gator's presence.

"I thought it was a big garfish," he said. "I was in a 13-foot Hobie Outback, and that thing had 3 foot of head that was a foot and a half across."
