The picture posted to Instagram by Tennessee man David Karnauch shows him using a selfie stick to snap a photo with his GoPro camera after climbing the Brooklyn Bridge. Advertisement Security expert Manny Gomez said Karnauch's photo highlights security problems at the bridge. "It's a threat to people who are on the bridge or walking the bridge," Gomez told WPIX-TV. Karnauch said he was never stopped or questioned by police or other security personnel during his bridge climb. "You could just get on a beam and it actually had handrails on the left and right side, and I just walked across the bridge and turned around to take a picture," he told WNBC-TV. "I don't recommend anybody else do it. It's not a smart thing to do because I know they take security on the bridges seriously," Karnauch said. John Miller, the New York Police Department's deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism, said Karnauch's actions were illegal, but the department is not treating the incident as a security breach. Advertisement "The person most endangered was the individual whose goal seems to be bringing attention to himself," Miller said. "It was however, irresponsible and illegal. Had the officers patrolling the bridge arrived while he was there, he would have been arrested, as others have been. When he called the act 'not a smart thing to do,' he described it correctly."
