Navy uses new aircraft carrier catapult to launch GoPro camera

NEWPORT NEWS, Va., June 17 (UPI) -- The U.S. Navy tested out the electromagnetic catapult for launching aircraft from the carrier USS Gerald Ford by using it to fling a GoPro camera at 160 mph.

The test video, shared on YouTube by shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls Industries, shows the catapult's-eye-view as the camera is flung into the water at 160 mph.

Susan Ford Bales, President Gerald Ford's daughter, gave the launch signal for the test.

The Navy previously shared video of the catapult being tested from other angles.
