Chinese police recover diamond-encrusted phone

Police said they declined a $1,625 reward for the Vertu phone's return.

WENZHOU, China, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Police in China said they have recovered a diamond-encrusted cellphone worth more than $110,000 after it was lost by its owner at an airport.

Investigators said the owner of the $110,533 Vertu phone, which was customized with a gold shell and encrusted with more than 800 diamonds, told police he lost the valuable item while rescheduling a flight at an airport in Wenzhou.

Police said they reviewed security camera footage from the airport and discovered the phone had been picked up by a woman, who they located in a nearby village.

The phone was returned to the owner, who was identified by the surname Lin. Police said officers refused a $1,625 reward Lin offered for the phone's return.
