NHL player 'baffled' after police find cocaine in jeans he had been wearing for 3 days

TAMPA, Fla., Aug. 13 (UPI) -- A NHL player who is used to being on the ice reportedly told police that he was "baffled" when Florida police allegedly found 1.3 grams of snow in the pocket of his pants.

After the cocaine was discovered in his back pocket during a DUI arrest in April, ex-Tampa Bay Lightning wing Ryan Malone reportedly said, "Oh my God."

According to the 34-year-old, he had been wearing the same jeans for three days and he was "baffled" about how the drugs ended up on his person, the Tampa Bay Times reported.

"I asked where it came from," officer Andrew Visser wrote in his incident report. "And he said he was just shocked."

During the April stop, Malone was riding with a female friend and his brother. He declined to take a field sobriety test but a blood alcohol test at booking recorded his BAC as over the legal limit.

He was booked on charges of DUI and cocaine possession.

The Lightning bought out the 10-year-veteran in June and he is an unrestricted free agent.
