WASHINGTON, July 2 (UPI) -- Tim Howard played so well for the U.S. men's national soccer team during their 2-1 defeat to Belgium at the World Cup that an official White House petition was started Tuesday night to rename Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport after him.

The "Change the name of Washington National Airport (DCA) to 'Tim Howard National Airport'" petition already has more than 3,300 signatures. It needs 100,000 to get an official response from the Obama administration.

"Whereas Tim Howard has shown himself to be a national treasure, Minister of Defense, Friend of Joe Biden, and the holder for the record of most saves in a World Cup match; Therefore we politely request that we rename the airport to recognize his accomplishments, and meritorious service to the United States of America," the petition states.

In the Belgium match, Howard had 16 saves, the most that have ever been recorded in a World Cup game since FIFA started recording the statistic.

"The dream fell short, but this is an incredible group, and we'll never forget this night," Howard said after the game.

If he gets an airport named after him, chances are people won't forget that either.

Howard supporters have until July 31 to sign the petition.
