Gravy required: Mashed potato spill in England causes road closure in North Yorkshire

NORTH YORKSHIRE , England, June 23 (UPI) -- Traffic on a section of the A64 was halted for hours so that North Yorkshire Police could cook up a way to deal with a massive mashed potato spill.

The "Instant Mash situation" was caused by a lorry spilling a load of mashed potatoes that quickly "swelled up" and created perilous driving conditions that made the road as slick as an "ice rink."

"It was like a sea of white," a witness told the Daily Mail. "I was about a mile away from where it happened but I could still see it. At first I just didn't know what it was. I heard it was mash potato, but I am not sure whether it was mashed before or after the spillage."
