Former porn star running for seat on Florida school board

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla., June 18 (UPI) -- A former porn star is hoping to get elected to the Palm Beach County School Board, even though he's currently suing the school district in federal court.

David Mech, aka "Dave Pounder," filed a discrimination suit against the district after it removed signs advertising his Happy/Fun Math Tutor service from several schools.

"Lawsuits like mine happen because of poor decision-making and that's why I'm running for the board," Mech told CBS Miami.

The case is set to go to trial in November, while the school board election is scheduled for August 26.

Mech is hoping to unseat incumbent Karen Brill

The 38-year-old, who is a former adjunct math professor at Palm Beach State College, is single and he doesn't have any children.

Despite his background, Mech sees no reason why he shouldn't be elected to the board.

"Why do we always use this role model in the domain of sexuality? Why is not a teacher who is overweight a bad role model?" Mech asked while speaking with the Sun Sentinel.
