A group of four friends saw the alert on Facebook and decided to go look for the baby. As more information became available, one of the friends, Charlène Plante, realized she knew the suspect. They drove to the woman's apartment, saw the car outside and then called the police.
Officers quickly arrived, rescued the baby and took the woman into custody. "After the baby was in the hands of the police, it was the best moment in my life," one of the friends, Mélizanne Bergeron, told CBC News. "We were crying."
McMahon and Boisclair now have their fourth child, Victoria, back safely.
"I never thought Quebec could be so helpful and considerate. We got a huge wave of love from the entire population. It helped us get through it," McMahon said.
The suspect was brought to the hospital to undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
"It was even better than her birth. I have no words to describe it," Boisclair said.
