The Rotten Sneaker Contest has a loser… or winner.

The 39th edition of the Odor-Eaters Rotten Sneaker Contest was won by a 12-year-old girl from New Mexico.

Jordan Armstrong of Las Cruces walked away from Ripley’s Believe It Or Not in New York's Times Square with $2,500 after winning the contest.

Armstrong was just one of the “stinky seven,” but her sneakers were declared to be the smelliest.

The Rotten Sneaker Contest began in 1974 and Odor-Eaters came on as the official sponsor in 1988.

"It's not enough that the sneakers repel me. They should make me feel faint, or wish I had a clothespin or a gas mask nearby,” said judge and smell expert Dr. Herz. “That's the kind of stink that takes home the gold."

Contestants are judged on how bad their shoes smell and what their footwear looks like. Competitors also have to give a “verbal account of why and how his/her sneakers are the stinkiest.”

"This year, Jordan Armstrong was the grand prize winner of $2,500, out-stinking other contestants from Wasilla, AK; Hickory Hills, IL; Burton, MI; Holden, UT; Lilburn, GA and Bristol, CT," Odor-Eaters said in the announcement.

"The Champion confessed that her sneakers got dirty and smelly because she never takes them off -- she's worn them for the past two years to school, to the park, playing sports and even to bed!”
