CRESTVIEW, Fla., March 17 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said they arrested a woman accused of stealing about $20 worth of perfume bottles and struggling with a store employee.

Investigators said workers at Beall's Outlet store in Crestview spotted Melinda Jean Roderus, 32, of Baker concealing several bottles of perfume in her purse and a loss prevention officer followed the suspect when she left the store without paying, the Northwest Florida Daily News reported Monday.

Crestview police report said the officer asked Roderus to come back inside the store, but she refused and attempted to run to a nearby green van. The worker grabbed her by the shoulder and she allegedly kicked and flailed her arms at the employee, who then forced her to the ground to protect himself, police said.

Police said Roderus was found to be carrying $19.74 worth of perfume bottles from the store in her purse.

Roderus was charged with retail theft and resisting a merchant in the recovery of stolen items. She is due in court April 8.
