Faced with school closure, British students turn to Royals for help

DEVIZES, England, March 2 (UPI) -- Children at an London-area school slated for closure came up with a way to save it: Get Prince William and wife, Kate, to enroll their baby son George.

The royal couple mailed personal letters, and photographs of themselves and Prince George, their baby, after the 11 students at Chirton Church of England Primary School in Devizes suggested the baby prince, born in July, be enrolled there in a few years, the Western Daily Press in Bristol reported Sunday.

Having a prince enrolled at the school would be a way to keep it open after it was threatened with closure by the local authority, the newspaper noted.

Each respondent received a personalized letter. The letter to a student identified as Keeleigh read, "Their Royal Highnesses were impressed by your persuasive comments. You certainly made a wonderful case for Chirton Primary, with its beautiful, large grounds being the ideal school for Prince George."

"We were facing closure and the children asked if Prince George could come here. We were over the moon, getting these letters back," head teacher Amy Bekker Wrench said.

The school, 90 miles west of London, said an influx of new students will bring enrollment to 19 after Easter.
