Remote-controlled helicopter allegedly used for prison smuggling

MORGAN, Ga., Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Authorities in Georgia said four people were arrested for allegedly trying to use a small remote-controlled helicopter to sneak contraband into a prison.

Calhoun County Sheriff Josh Hilton said a corrections officer at Calhoun State Prison in Morgan spotted the remote-controlled drone hovering over the prison yard last week in an apparent attempt to deliver contraband to inmates, WALB-TV, Albany, reported Friday.

Hilton said a black Dodge containing four people was pulled over in Morgan about an hour after the drone was spotted.

"After we gained consent to search the car, we found the helicopter and I don't know exactly how much it was but probably about one or two pounds of tobacco rolled up," Hilton said.

The tobacco was rolled in plastic and the group of people allegedly planned to use the helicopter to deliver the rolls to customers inside the prison.

The names of the people arrested were not released.
