Wrigley heiress charters flight for U.S. Marine's dogs

JACKSONVILLE, N.C., Oct. 22 (UPI) -- The great-granddaughter of the founder of Wrigley chewing gum chartered a private plane to transport a U.S. Marine's dogs from California to North Carolina.

Helen Rosburg, the great-granddaughter of William Wrigley, said she decided to help out Andrew Morales after she saw a Facebook post explaining he and his family might lose their two dogs because they were too large for commercial airlines, ABC News "Good Morning America" reported Tuesday.

Morales rescued the dogs, part-Anatolian Shepherds, while on a tour of duty in Afghanistan nearly three years ago. The rescue league that helped him bring the dogs back to the United States put out an online plea for help when he was reassigned from California to Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, N.C., and a commercial service could not be found to transport the animals.

"He was going to lose his dogs and I said 'Not on my watch,'" Rosburg said. "He's a hero on so many different levels. The Wrigleys are an extremely patriotic family and I am a true Wrigley child."

Morales said he and his family would like to thank Rosburg in person.

"From the bottom of me and my wife's hearts we really appreciate what she did for us," Morales said.
