LAWRENCE, Kan., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- A Kansas clinic marked Breast Cancer Awareness Month by stringing hundreds of bras along a guardrail of a bridge across the Kansas River near Lawrence.

Shelly Wakeman, director of the Health Care Access clinic, which provides services to those below the poverty line in Douglas County, said a team of volunteers spent Sunday afternoon stringing the bras along the bridge for the Bras Across the Kaw project, the Lawrence Journal-World reported Monday.

Wakeman said the stunt is a repeat of previous years, but this year she wanted to make sure there was no mystery about the origins of the bras.

"Everybody always notices the bras, of course, but I think in years past people didn't know who was responsible," Wakeman said. "It was like all these bras show up and you're wondering where they come from."
