YBOR CITY, Fla., June 18 (UPI) -- A 9-year-old Florida boy who went with his family to see the new Superman movie saved the day himself when he found a loaded handgun in the theater restroom.

Wesley Noland said his son, Zane, came out of the restroom at the Ybor City Muvico theater and said, "Dad, there's a gun in the bathroom."

Noland, a former Marine, went into the restroom and saw a Glock 26 9-mm sitting on top of a toilet paper dispenser, WTSP-TV, Tampa Bay, reported. He secured the weapon and called police, who were investigating.

Noland said he was proud of his son for acting responsibly and was glad he was able to secure the gun before someone else did.

"That the gun could have been picked up by a child, or it could have been picked up by a convicted felon or a rowdy group of teenagers or something like that," he said. "But in any case, it could have been used in a crime or accidentally discharged and it could have killed somebody in the theater -- worst of all a kid."
