DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, June 12 (UPI) -- The tallest twisted structure in the world, a 1,007-foot residential tower, has been officially inaugurated in the United Arab Emirates.

The 75-story Cayan Tower, previously known as Infiniti Tower, was inaugurated Monday in Dubai after construction began in 2006 and was followed by years of delays caused by factors including flooding in the basement and the 2009 financial crisis, CNN reported Wednesday.

Each floor on the building is rotated by 1.2 degrees, giving the tower its twisted effect.

Cayan Real Estate Investment and Development Co., the developer behind the $272 million project, said about 80 percent of the 495 apartments in the building already have been sold.
