Upper Darby Township Fifth District Councilwoman Colleen Marsini said officials have received numerous complaints from residents who said bamboo growing in a neighbor's yard had spread onto their properties, the Delaware County (Pa.) Daily Times reported Monday.
"Bamboo is taking over the township," Marsini said.
"It cracks cement sidewalks and takes over," Marsini said. "It's overpowering. Once the ordinance is adopted residents will not be able to plant new bamboo and any bamboo on their property has to be cut back."
The council will hold a public hearing on the proposed ordinance Wednesday evening.
