"People who are 'normal' would find this nerdy and it is. It is nerdy," Sam Siegel, 38, told The Philadelphia Inquirer while dressed as a Klingon alien from the science fiction franchise. "But it's no more nerdy than those who do taxidermy or collect baseball cards." Advertisement Siegel and hundreds of other self-professed "Trekkies," fans of the "Star Trek" franchise, were at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Cherry Hill during the weekend for "a weekend of everything 'Trek.'" The event included memorabilia sales and question-and-answer sessions with franchise stars Avery Brooks, Capt. Sisko of "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine;" Michael Dorn, Cmdr. Worf of "Star Trek: The Next Generation;" and Gates McFadden, Dr. Crusher of "The Next Generation," the Inquirer reported Monday. Many at the convention said the best part was building friendships with like-minded fans. "It's a great community," said Mercury Presentia of New York state, who attended the convention dressed as half human/half Klingon character K'Ehleyr from "The Next Generation." Advertisement
