RIDDINGS, England, April 29 (UPI) -- Two British brothers, separated for 80 years, said they reached the same military rank, played the same soccer position and gave their daughters the same name.

Ron and Fred Boyes said they did not know each other existed until they were recently contacted by a relative who found them both while researching his family tree, The Mirror reported Monday.

Ron, 83, of Riddings, England, and Fred, 80, of Drayton, England, said they were adopted through difference services 80 years ago. However, the men have now discovered they attained the same rank in the Royal Air Force, played the same soccer position in their youths and both now have daughters named Wendy.

"I'd tried to find out more about my birth mother," Fred said. "But I ended up being rejected again, as did Ron. I was working 100 hours a week at that point, and you think, 'I've tried, now I've got to move on with my life.'

"So to find out I had a brother after all these years was just, wow. When we first met, Ron was sat back in his big chair and ... oh, I couldn't speak."

Ron said he once came face-to-face with his birth mother, but she denied ever having any children.

"It was emotional," Ron said. "That feeling of having a real brother was absolutely marvelous."
