Deadbeat Russian army post faces snow dump

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, Russia, April 6 (UPI) -- A snow-removal company said it might dump snow collected from city streets at a Russian army office that failed to pay its snow-removal bills from last year.

A spokesman for the company said the regional Army office in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky owes 1 million rubles ($31,000) for last year, RIA Novosti reported. He said the contractor will dump snow removed from city streets on the office if the bill is not paid by mid-April.

Temperatures in the city are forecast to remain below freezing for at least two weeks.

Snow removal is an issue in a Russian army corruption scandal, in which investigators say high-ranking Defense Ministry officials diverted as much as $190 million appropriated for maintenance to their own benefit.
