Firetrucks deliver pizzas

ESSEX JUNCTION, Vt., March 26 (UPI) -- A Domino's Pizza location in Vermont is teaming with the local fire department to deliver pizzas and promote fire safety.

Customers who order from the Essex Junction Domino's between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday are given the option of having their pizza delivered via fire truck, and the firefighters in the vehicle will then check the customer's smoke detectors, WFFF-TV, Burlington, Vt., reported Tuesday.

Customers whose smoke detectors are found to be working will receive their pizzas for free, the restaurant said.

"When you change your clocks for daylight saving time or plan your spring cleaning, it's a great time of year to remember to change the batteries in your smoke alarms," said Sam Jackson, general manager of Domino's Pizza in Essex Junction. "Functioning smoke alarms save lives, but many people forget to maintain the batteries. We are excited to be working with the local fire department to promote good fire safety precautions."

Patrons whose smoke detectors are not working will receive the consolation prize of new batteries for the devices.
