BABYLON, N.Y., Feb. 9 (UPI) -- New York police saved a baby deer that was found struggling to stay afloat in 8-foot-deep water off the shore of Fire Island, officials said.

The fawn was spotted around 1 p.m Friday when it was about 30 yards from the shore, the New York Daily News reported.

Officers Robert Femia and Peter Bogachunas pulled the fawn onto a boat and covered it with a blanket. The fawn appeared to be unresponsive as officers docked and continued to dry and warm the fawn.

At the dock, several other deer came to the scene and started to lick the unresponsive fawn, reviving it.

Officers fed the fawn popcorn before it left with the rest of the pack.
