Carteret County District Attorney Scott Thomas said his office will not seek charges against Jim Turner, 69, of Pine Knoll Shores, who posted Friday to President Barack Obama's Facebook page: "I have voted once in Beaufort, once in Henderson, twice in Emerald Isle, and will vote in my precinct in Pine Knoll Shores. I will do whatever it takes to save our country from the world envisioned by Mitt [Romney] and his fear mongering followers," WCTI-TV, New Bern, reported Tuesday.

However, the State Board of Elections determined Turner had yet to vote at all in the current election.

"We have talked with Mr. Turner and learned that he is a senior citizen who made an unfortunate attempt at a joke," the board said in a statement.

North Carolina is considered a swing state where polls indicate Obama and Romney are in a dead heat.

The comment went viral during the weekend, and Turner said he and his family are receiving death threats as a result of the post.

"My concern now turns not to the controversy but to the safety of my family," Turner said in a statement. "I have received threatening phone calls and many calls urging me to turn myself in."

"My daughter says 69 year old men without basic computer knowledge should not play on Facebook," Turner said. "She's right!"

Officials consider rooster curfew

LULEA, Sweden, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- Officials in a Swedish town are considering a rooster curfew to satisfy neighbors who complained about a constantly crowing bird.

Some Lulea residents said the rooster stands by a fence nearly all day long and crows constantly, leading the local environmental office to consider a proposal to ban the bird from the area between May 15 and Sept. 15 each year and impose a strict curfew on the rooster to keep it indoors from 7 p.m. until 9 a.m. every day, The Local.se reported Tuesday.

Council members said they will make a decision on the issue at Thursday's meeting.

Hardin was caught in the act after the bus driver gave officers cellphone footage of a previous incident, police said.

PERTH, Australia, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- An 85-year-old Australian priest who rappelled down the side of a cathedral said his stunt was designed to challenge negative stereotypes of seniors.

Tim Harrison, who said he rappelled once before during World War II, rappelled Tuesday down the side of the 131-foot-tall bell tower of St. George's Cathedral in Perth to promote Western Australia's Nov. 11-18 Seniors Week and challenge negative stereotypes of senior citizens, The Daily Telegraph, Sydney, reported Tuesday.
