GALASHIELS, Scotland, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- A janitor at a Scottish school is suing after she slipped on some stairs that had been covered in Vaseline as an apparent end-of-year prank.

Lawyers for Linda Gillie, 53, a janitor at the Galashiels Academy high school, said the woman suffered head and leg injuries when she fell down the Vaseline-covered stairs in May 2009, The Daily Telegraph reported Friday.

The lawyers said in papers filed in the Court of Session Gillie slipped when she was told to clean the Vaseline from the handrail but was not told there was also Vaseline on the stairs themselves.

The lawsuit, which is seeking $80,445, accuses the school of not doing enough to discourage students from pulling pranks.

"In the years preceding the said accident, leaving sixth year pupils have thrown eggs and tomato ketchup at the school, placed sardines in lockers, left dirty nappies in the school, left fish in the library, put washing up liquid down the toilets and black boot polish on seats," the suit says.
