GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany, July 10 (UPI) -- Police in western Germany said crews were working Tuesday to clean up a mixture of mustard and vinegar spilled onto a roadway by a crashed truck.

Investigators said the 34-year-old truck driver lost control of the vehicle around 1 a.m. when one of the truck's tires burst on the A2 connecting Gelsenkirchen and Hannover, and the mustard and vinegar was spilled onto the roadway when the truck struck the wall of a tunnel, The Local.de reported Tuesday.

A police spokeswoman said some diesel also spilled from the truck, creating a mixture that "was a little harsh on the nose."

The road was closed shortly after the spill for cleanup efforts and police said they expected to have it reopened in the mid-afternoon.
