VAN BUREN, Ark., July 4 (UPI) -- Police in Arkansas said an accused hit and run driver told them she left the scene of the crash because she feared her ice cream would melt.

The Van Buren Police Department said Derek Parker followed Flora Burkhart, 58, to her home after she rear-ended his truck around 6 p.m. Sunday, The Smoking Gun reported Wednesday.

Parker called 911 and officers responded to Burkhart's home and asked why she had left the scene of the crash.

"I left because I did not want my ice cream to melt," police quoted Burkhart as saying.

Police said the woman told them she "didn't think there was enough damage to the vehicles to call police."

The damage to each vehicle was estimated around $500.

Burkhart was cited for leaving the scene of an accident and driving too closely to another vehicle.
