DADE CITY, Fla., June 16 (UPI) -- A Dade City, Fla., man, accused of stealing a 6-month-old pig and apparently selling it for $40, has been arrested, law enforcement officials said.

Pasco County sheriff's deputies said Earl Anthony Florer, 38, saw the pig when he was collecting scrap metal June 8 at a home, asked if he could take it, and was refused by the homeowner, who said she thought the animal belonged to a neighbor, the Tampa Bay Times reported Saturday.

The homeowner, Shannon Shafer, said she locked the pig in a bedroom when she went to bed, but discovered that the little porker was missing when she awoke the next morning, police said.

A neighbor, Anne Hammond, told deputies the pig, named Piggy, was her pet and had escaped from his cage.

Deputies later arrested Florer, who reportedly sold it, the Times said.

Piggy was recovered and returned to its owner.
