FORT MITCHELL, Ohio, June 8 (UPI) -- Authorities in Ohio said a syrup spill on north and southbound Interstate 75 was a "royal pain in the butt" to clean up.

Fort Mitchell police said both sides of the highway were down to two lanes late Thursday and early Friday when an overturned semi tractor-trailer spilled pancake syrup all over the roadway, The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Friday.

"Every lane of southbound I-75 was covered in pancake syrup," Fort Mitchell Police Officer Mark Spanyer said. "It was a royal pain in the butt."

State transportation crews and officials with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency worked overnight to clean up the mess and were finished by 2:45 a.m. Friday.

The truck driver, whose vehicle was torn in half when it struck the Buttermilk Pike overpass, was taken to University Hospital with minor injuries. Police said no charges were filed against the driver, whose name was not released.
