Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe LA JOLLA, Calif., March 28 (UPI) -- A Lorax statue measuring 2-feet-tall was taken from the backyard of the California mansion occupied by Dr. Seuss' widow, the property manager said. Property manager Carl Romero said he and Audrey Geisel noticed the statue was missing from the garden Monday while they were walking through the yard of the La Jolla mansion and the item was last seen in its proper place Saturday afternoon, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Wednesday. Advertisement "It's a valuable piece because there are only two of them, and it's an iconic figure," Romero said Tuesday. He said tracks in the garden indicate the thieves dragged the 300-pound statue to a nearby access road. Romero said Geisel "just wants it back" and won't press charges if the thieves return the statue. Audrey Geisel's daughter, sculptor Lark Grey Dimond-Cates, created the statue and one other in 2002 as a tribute to the character created by her stepfather, Dr. Seuss, whose real name was Theodore Geisel. Theodore Geisel died in 1991 at the age of 87.
