MONTGOMERY, Ill., Dec. 26 (UPI) -- A family in the Chicago suburbs said they returned home on Christmas to find someone had stolen their 6-foot inflatable penguin.

Kim Mattern of Montgomery said the penguin, which stood next to her family's front door as part of their holiday display, was still in place when they left home at 1 p.m. Sunday but it was gone when they returned home at 8 p.m., the Chicago Tribune reported Monday

Mattern said the $50 penguin was the only thing missing and police said there were no similar crimes reported in the neighborhood.

The mother said her 2-year-old and 6-year-old were "very upset" by the theft.

"On Christmas … that's the part that bothers us the most, that it's Christmas," Mattern said.
