Advertisement Union City police said Brenda King, 55, told officers her son, Emanual Cordell Kennedy, 37, threw an object that struck her in the back while she was walking down the hall during an argument Tuesday, The (Union City) Messenger reported Thursday. Officers said Kennedy admitted to throwing the ham and said he was not expecting his mother to be walking down the hall at the time and had not meant to hit her with the meat. Kennedy was arrested on a charge of domestic assault. How cold was it? Canoe freezes into lake WATERHEN LAKE, Saskatchewan, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- A man on a Canadian Indian reservation was successfully rescued in northern Saskatchewan when his canoe was frozen into ice, rescuers said. The incident began Wednesday morning when Norman Martell, 56, became iced in on Waterhen Lake, the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. reported. When he was late in returning home, police and fire rescue crews were called. Advertisement Rescuer Victor Mark told the CBC a rescuers in a rowboat worked like a miniature icebreaker, with some paddling and others in the front hacking at the ice to clear a path for more than four hours. Once Martell was rescued, he said he tried to get out of the canoe to walk to shore, but realized the ice wouldn't support his weight. He was taken to a hospital in Meadow Lake with no apparent injuries for observation, the report said. University: Suspensions for naked runners MEDFORD, Mass., Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Tufts University in Massachusetts said it will suspend students who participate in the traditional naked run despite the school's ban on the event. Administrators said the naked run, which previously took place each December before exams, was banned due to the high number of hospital visits by drunk students running in the cold, WCVB-TV, Boston, reported Thursday. The school said students flouting the ban would be suspended for the entire spring semester. Elderly newlywed: 'It is never too late' KANSAS CITY, Mo., Nov. 17 (UPI) -- An 83-year-old Missouri man who married his 96-year-old girlfriend said he hopes younger people will realize "it is never too late" for love. Advertisement Kansas City couple Paul Tredo, 83, and Fern Schurr, 96, said they decided to get married after only knowing one another for just over a year, KCTV, Kansas City, reported Thursday. "We used to eat meals together all the time. Then suddenly, there she was, and it became evident that she was the one I wanted to be with," Tredo said. "It is never too late. You are never too old." Schurr said she was "starting a whole new life" with Tredo. "Love is everywhere. It cannot hide from you," said Schurr. "He is my friend, and I need -- we all need friends, and we need people who are sincere in their hearts. And he is."
