Liability waiver a bull-run tradition?

CAVE CREEK, Ariz., Oct. 5 (UPI) -- Anyone who wants to run with the bulls this month in Cave Creek, Ariz., must pay a $25 fee and sign a seven-page waiver of liability, an organizer says.

Phil Immordino, the man behind the bull run, said there were no claims made after three bull runs he sponsored 10 years ago, The New York Times reported. He also says the upcoming three-day event is heavily insured.

But he still wants those waivers.

"We have a seven-page waiver, and they need to initial every paragraph and every page," Immordino told the Times. "It says you, your neighbor, your cousin and your cousin's brother can't sue anybody about any of this."

The bull run is scheduled to be held Oct. 14-16 in Cave Creek, a town outside Phoenix best known for using the drawing of playing cards as a tiebreaker in the 2009 mayoral race. Immordino says it will be safer than the famous one in Pamplona, Spain, because the bulls are less aggressive and their horns not as sharp.

In addition to runners, the bull run is expected to bring animal rights activists to Cave Creek to protest it.
