BOSTON, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- Divers plunged 80 feet from the roof of an art museum into Boston Harbor -- and it was just practice for the main event.

A dozen divers soared through the air Thursday into the harbor's waters from the cantilever roof of the Institute of Contemporary Art building to prepare for the sixth stop of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2011, The Boston Globe reported.

The competition Saturday in Boston marks the first East Coast stop and the only urban stop this year for the diving event.

Spectators on a wooden deck took in the practice dives from eight stories above the waters as diver Steven LoBue twisted and somersaulted through the air, the Globe said.

"You wouldn't be able to pay me to do that,'' Gail Horlock, a 60-year-old from Wales, said as men jumped from the rooftop.

"They're mad. But it's brilliant -- I've never seen anything like it.''

Divers compete throughout the world.
