DUMANGAS, Philippines, July 6 (UPI) -- Leaders in a Philippine town said they removed six road warning signs featuring images of witches after complaints from locals and on social networking sites.

Officials in Dumangas in Iloilo province said they removed the signs, which bore the images of three witches on broomsticks in the place of the traditional skull and crossbones to warn motorists of areas where crashes had taken place, due to complaints from residents who said it reflects poorly on their town, Gulf News reported Wednesday.

Mayor Ronald Golez, who had the signs installed, said the signs were meant to encourage motorists to slow down and no offense was intended.
