The alleged bandit's pants came down after he did a face-plant on the pavement, and after struggling to pull them up, he scrambled into a Chevy Malibu with no license plate and took off, scattering leaking cans of Bud Lite across the parking lot.

"This video cracks me up," said Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said. "I can't get the song lyrics out of my head, 'Lookin' like a fool with your pants on the ground,'" the Orlando Sentinel reported about the Wednesday 6:30 p.m. incident.

1-year-old signs soccer 'contract'

VENLO, Netherlands, May 1 (UPI) -- A 1-year-old Dutch toddler has been signed to a 10-year "professional" contract by a soccer team after a YouTube video showed him scoring "goals."

The VVV Venlo soccer club signed the boy, Baerke van der Mey, to a symbolic contract after a YouTube video posted by the father of the toddler shooting three balls into a toy box got more than 900,000 hits, Radio Netherlands reported Sunday.

Taking advantage of the publicity, VVV invited the toddler to join players during a practice session at De Koel Stadium in the southern Dutch town of Venlo.

The team was happy to offer the toddler the token contract as his grandfather had once played for VVV Venlo, Radio Netherlands said.

Britain's living Barbie on right track

LONDON, May 1 (UPI) -- A British teenager says she has no qualms about beginning cosmetic surgery at age 12 in order to transform herself into the image of a Barbie doll.

Brooke Bates, 17, said her childhood weight problems had become critical and warranted a series of procedures that have included a tummy tuck, liposuction and a gastric band.

"No one can blame my mum for letting me go ahead with the surgery," Bates told the Mirror. "She didn't want to lose her daughter."

Bates said being overweight also led to a constant barrage of teasing that made her life miserable.

The newspaper said Sunday Bates' evolution eventually included breast implants, bleach-blonde hair and daily visits to a tanning booth.

"Having surgery so young definitely made me obsessed with my looks, but what's wrong with a girl wanting to make the best of herself?" Bates said.

Apple-eating elk turns up pregnant

BLEKINGE, Sweden, May 1 (UPI) -- An elk that made headlines in Sweden when she started eating apples in people's back yards is in the news again because she is pregnant.

Fabiola, the elk called Fabbe when she showed up in 2009 and 2010 in Blekinge in southern Sweden, is now pregnant, The Local reported.

Karl-Goran Eriksson, who works at Rantemala Gard, a moose park in Blekinge, said Fabiola would probably give birth at the end of May.

Fabiola started showing up in back yards in November 2009, and she quickly became a sensation. She returned a year later, and there were talks of either putting her down or relocating her for public safety.

Officials ultimately decided to relocate the elk after her plight became known on a Facebook page. The page had more than 4,000 followers and an agreement was reached in early 2011 to relocate her to Rantemala Gard.

She was captured and transferred to her new home in February. Eriksson said she quickly readjusted to her new living conditions with 11 other elk that live on the farm.
