LOUISVILLE, Ky., Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Nearly 1,300 people raised $330,000 for the Special Olympics at the annual Polar Bear Plunge in Louisville, Ky., organizers said.

The event was held Saturday at the Tumbleweed restaurant using two soft-sided pools because heavy rains caused the water level in the Ohio River to rise, The Louisville (Ky.) Courier-Journal reported.

Mark Buerger, communications director for Special Olympics Kentucky, said Miller was part of the 80-member Ice Socks team, which raised $63,437.
