MIAMI, Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Brooches Madeleine Albright wore as U.N. ambassador and secretary of state to make statements are on display in a Miami exhibit.

"Read My Pins" in the Freedom Tower includes a snake Albright began wearing because Iraqi news media called her a "serpent" for attacking Saddam Hussein, Miami New Times reported. It was that gesture that started her on using her jewelry for something more than decoration.

Albright used another pin, a bluebird with diamonds and rubies, after Cuban planes shot down one flown by the Miami-based exile group Brothers to the Rescue. She placed the pin so the bird's head was down in mourning.

The exhibit is sponsored by Miami Dade College. When Albright visited it Wednesday for an opening reception she made another kind of statement, with a gold brooch given her years ago by the college president, Eduardo Padron, The Miami Herald said.

"I might wear a turtle because it has been slow for the Cuban people," Albright responded when asked what pin she would wear to show support for the country now.
