NEW YORK, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Monday is Valentine's Day, but Sunday is "Valenswine's Day," say people who pay attention to such things in New York.

The day before the traditional event has become known as "Valenswine's Day," or "Mistress Day" because it's the day when spousal cheaters take their mistresses out on the town, the New York Post reported Sunday.

"There's a lot of hand-holding and eye-gazing," said Scott Stamford, general manager of New York's River Cafe. "We have to be discreet. Sometimes it's even people we know."

Tony DeLorenzo, a private investigator, said he does a lot of business ahead of Valentine's Day.

"Valentine's Day is like our Christmas," DeLorenzo said. "It's so rampant in the city."

He said he follows a dozen cheaters on a typical Mistress Day.

While wives might get a box of chocolates, a man's mistress often does better.

DeLorenzo said he caught one cheater at a Manhattan restaurant after he parked a new black BMW automobile outside the eatery for his girlfriend.
