CHICAGO, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- An overdue pregnant woman, braving the snow-covered Chicago streets, says she walked herself to the hospital just in time to give birth.

Julia Johnson, 29, was eight days overdue when labor pains hit at 2 a.m. Wednesday, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Snow was piled up too high for her husband, Andy to get the car out of the driveway so he called his father and brother-in-law, but no dice.

Andy's brother, a Chicago fireman said to call 9-1-1 which he did, but when the fire engine and ambulance arrived, they were unable to make it up to the Johnson's building, the Tribune said.

Plan B.

"She had to walk down the street about a block in the blizzard, and she had a contraction about halfway and had to stop," Andy said.

When they finally made it to Swedish Covenant Hospital Julia was nine centimeters dilated and it was too late for her to get an epidural.

"She definitely wanted the drugs, but the doctor there had to coach her through without any," Andy said.

After a 40-minute labor, the world was introduced to 7-pound, 12-ounce Vada Johnson.

"She's perfect," Andy said. "We're just so happy we got here safely."
