Deputies said when they arrived the man, who had replaced the pin and put the explosive outside, told them it belonged to a neighbor who possessed another grenade.
The neighbor told deputies the grenades had belonged to her deceased husband and she had been using them as bookends for several years.
The deputies said a bomb squad detonated the grenades in a nearby field, leaving a 2-foot crater in the ground.
