PORT ORCHARD, Wash., Jan. 11 (UPI) -- A 15-year-old Washington state girl was put in juvenile detention after making up a robbery, authorities said.

Deputies were called to a block in Port Orchard Wednesday morning, a Kitsap County sheriff's report cited by the Kitsap (Wash.) Sun stated. The girl said she had been walking to school when an attacker pulled her into bushes and covered her head with a sheet. She said she escaped by slipping out of her backpack.

While deputies searched the area, one asked the girl if she was inventing the story because she was late for school. She admitted she was.

The false report tied up 18 police officers, including some on overtime, the sheriff's office said. And nearby schools were briefly locked down during the investigation.

The girl was taken to the Kitsap County Juvenile Detention Center for making a false or misleading statement to a public servant.
