LOS ANGELES, Dec. 31 (UPI) -- The International House of Pancakes dropped a trademark-infringement lawsuit suit in Los Angeles against a Missouri-based church using the IHOP acronym.

Documents filed in federal court said the restaurant chain decided to drop its litigation Dec. 21 against the Kansas City-based International House of Prayer, which has California ministries in San Jose, Santa Maria and Dublin due to "ongoing mediation with the defendants," the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

Restaurant spokesman Patrick Lenow previously said the church's use of the IHOP acronym for its Web site and promotional materials undermined trademark uses and caused confusion among customers.

The chain said entered an agreement with the church to abstain from public comment about the case.
